Student Becomes Animal Keeper for the Day!
23 December 2009 | news archive
One lucky teenager found out firsthand what it’s like to be an animal keeper after winning a Leeds City College competition at the Countryside Careers Event.
Meg Speck, 13, from Tadcaster Grammar School, came top in a quiz held by the College at the Yorkshire Showground careers event back in October and won the opportunity to become a ‘Keeper for a Day’.
For her prize, Meg visited the specialist Animal Centre at the Leeds City College Horsforth Campus on Tuesday (December 22) and spent the day working with a range of exotic animals from bearded dragons and tarantulas to cuddlier animals such as guinea pigs and rabbits.
Working alongside staff at the Animal Centre, Meg learnt about animal care and husbandry and got some hands-on experience of handling and feeding the animals.
