Leeds City College Has Netted Another Accolade for its Sporting Provision
21 December 2009 | news archive
The College, which already holds National Skills Academy Status for Sport & Fitness and Community Sport Enterprise, has been awarded Focus College Status for Football Development, in partnership with the FA and British Colleges Sport.
The Focus College status is the top level which can be awarded to a further education college for their commitment to football development provision.
Leeds City College is among a select group as only ten colleges are selected each academic year to be part of the programme, following a rigorous application process.
As part of the process, each Focus College receives support from British Colleges Sport and The Football Association to form a four year football development strategy to put football at the heart of college life for every student, looking at ways of increasing wider participation amongst 16-19-year-olds through playing, coaching, volunteering and refereeing. It also aims to maximise links with the local community.
Leeds City College fields no less than eight football teams for both men and women, allowing for recreational participation to elite performance in combination with an academic education.
