An innovative enterprise showcasing creative talent from Yorkshire is set to open its doors in Keighley during an official re-launch on Thursday 6 September.
inc., part of Leeds City College, brings together three former college incubation centres – The Unit, Factory4 and Arts Factory/iStore.
As well as providing retail space in Keighley, inc. Creative provides an exciting gateway for encouraging enterprise and business start-up through access to facilities, services and expert help and advice for creative people and designer-makers in Yorkshire.
Located on Cavendish Street in the heart of the town, close to the college’s Keighley Campus, inc. provides artists and designer-makers with the support to help turn their ideas into a viable business. The enterprise provides people with an outlet to test-trade their products in a retail environment located on a busy high street. As a gateway for emerging designer-makers, the store presents products produced by jewellers, textile artists, printmakers, ceramicists and furniture designers, all of which highlight the talent of Yorkshire designers.
The launch will take place between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday at the store, and will provide an excellent opportunity for guests, artists, college representatives and members of the public to visit the new store, browse the product range, meet artists and designers and find out more about inc. and the services that are available through the project.
inc. delivers a test-trade retail space for designer-makers alongside business support, mentoring and exciting workshops, micro-courses, training and a programme of networking events throughout the year. There is also the opportunity for co-working, which enables people to work in a professional creative environment alongside like-minded people. Each year the store will present ‘six seasons’ that will feature products from new designers, artists and makers using attractive window displays, in-store experiences and feature artists to convey each ‘season’.
inc. is part funded by the net315 project which is financially supported by the European Union’s Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The net315 project is managed by an ‘incubation and education’ consortium, of which Leeds City College is the lead college. The project develops both facilities and services to provide additional support for college and community learners to make a success of enterprise.
