Inc Workshop’ Launches Summer Schools2 August 2012 | news archive
Inc Workshop, a creative workshop enterprise created by Leeds City College and based in Sheepscar, is celebrating the end of another successful academic year.
As one of four incubation units managed by Leeds City College, Inc Workshop is designed to help fledgling businesses develop and expand into viable enterprises. Opened in 2007 Inc Workshop has already assisted hundreds of local artists by delivering business training alongside the use of state of the art design and print studios, offering job opportunities and stimulating the local economy. Emily Farncombe Upholstery, Witshop designers and Dots Printhaus are just three of the 219 active members running professional businesses as a result of Inc Workshop.
In celebration of these achievements, the Inc Workshop is now launching new summer schools to expand on the business start-up training it already offers. The summer schools will offer intensive practical training, lectures, membership and an exhibition for artists developing skills in screen printing, woodworking, jewellery making, frame making, upholstery and laser cutting. In addition to the technical training, the summer school will deliver lectures to help budding entrepreneurs use social media, understand business processes and recognise financial and logistical factors.
The week-long creative summer schools will run from 20 August. All students will be invited to review their portfolios, advertise their work, become members of the workshop and exhibit at a December showcase. Local entrepreneurs can access business support, technical resources, financial advice, mentors, administrative services and valuable networking events by joining Inc Workshop or one of the partner units, Inc Enterprise, Inc Creative and Keighley’s ‘Fab Lab’.
