New Football Programme Kicks Off for Local Children

Keighley Campus, Leeds City College, has teamed up with Keighley Leisure Centre to sponsor its popular Football Frenzy programme for children.

The new partnership arrangement will see Keighley Campus sponsor the prizes for each Football Frenzy programme, which run during school holidays for children aged between five-13.

Youngsters are encouraged to join the twice weekly sessions (held on Tuesdays and Thursdays) to learn new skills, take part in shoot-outs and small sided games and there is also the chance for them to win some fantastic prizes including footballs and kit.

Chris Watson, Leisure Attendant at Keighley Leisure Centre is the current programme organiser and a former Leeds City College student.

Chris comments: “On average around 25 children attend a session, during which I run a combination of skills, small sided games and penalties,” said Chris Watson, Leisure Attendant at Keighley Leisure Centre and current programme organiser. “It’s a great opportunity for them to learn new skills, meet new people and win prizes.”

Chris is also looking forward to working with Leeds City College; as a former student, he completed a Level 2 Sport course at Keighley Campus and secured a work placement at the Leisure Centre during his studies.

“I really enjoy the work; it proves that going to college, and all the hard work and commitment paid off,” he said.

Leisure Centre Manager Steve Kirby, initially set-up the Football Frenzy in 1997 and is delighted that Chris has taken over the management of the scheme and secured the College sponsorship deal.

“Chris is a credit to the College, he initially came to the centre on work experience and his motivation and passion for sport really shone through,” Steve said. “He is a hard working and positive person and his work on the Football Frenzy Programme has been a great asset to the Leisure Centre. We are delighted to have Leeds City College on board and their sponsorship will provide fantastic prizes for lots of children from across the Aire Valley.”

Football Frenzy kicks off on Tuesday, July 24th, with the one hour sessions held every Tuesday and Thursday for the duration of the summer holidays. Sessions are priced £1.75 per child.
