Leeds City College Has Talent Final 2012

14 May 2012 | news archive

Leeds City College proved it has talent beyond all doubt on Friday night (11th May) when a storming set of student performances brought the house down for the Leeds City College Has Talent Final 2012.

Hosted at Leeds College of Music’s The Venue, the final showcased the diverse talents of students who had been through tough auditions and a boot camp to battle it out for the top prize of £500.

The show was opened by last year’s winner Marion Zubrzycki with a brilliant rendition of Rollin In The Deep, followed by her own brand new original song.

The contestants put on a superb show, with the acts ranging from acapella singers and Dean Martin-style crooners, to beatboxers, street-dancers, baton twirlers and magicians. Each pulled out all the stops to wow the panel of judges, which included Capital FM’s JoJo (returning for a second year), Leeds-based singer Narelle, performing arts tutor Shara Meek and head of creative arts Ken Reid.

The well-deserved first prize went to Izzy Thomas, who rocked out Michael Jackson’s version of The Beatles’ hit ‘Come Together’ with her own unique and professional style. She commanded the stage effortlessly as if she owned it and smashed out a vocal even Jacko himself would have been proud of!

Second place went to Keighley Campus comedy magician, Toby Davies, who had been hastily brought in to cover another act only 24 hours earlier. He delivered a hilarious and baffling routine of magic and humour that had the audience in stitches. Third place went to Jenny Serra who bravely belted out an excellent acapella version of “Feeling Good”, a song made popular when covered by Nina Simone.

We would like to congratulate Izzy on winning the competition and a huge thanks also to all our finalists for providing a fantastic night of entertainment for their families, friends, College staff and the Principals Peter Roberts and Professor Philip Meaden of Leeds College of Music.

Izzy’s winning performance can be seen HERE, and videos of the other act will be posted within the next few weeks.
