Leeds City College has been named Best UK Hospitality College 2012 by the Craft Guild of Chefs.

The College’s Faculty of Hospitality & Catering, which includes butchery and bakery, was awarded the Chairman’s prestigious award at the guild’s annual awards ceremony, held in London on Sunday.

The award considers the quality and breadth of provision, as well as innovation and enterprise.

Chairman Andrew Green visits colleges across the country, with the award based on the recommendation of the Craft Guild’s industry members alongside his own personal observations.

College Head of Faculty Gordon Sibbald, who attended the ceremony said: “The College has previously been awarded a Certificate of Services to the Craft Guild – however this is the major award presented at the annual awards ceremony.

As a college we are delighted and very proud to receive this award – many congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone in the Faculty for their work helping to achieve it.

The College has been presented with a special shield which will be going on display.
