Entry Requirements

Please check individual higher education courses for specific entry requirements.

Unless a course states otherwise, the minimum grades required to take Foundation Degrees are usually:

  • A-Level at Grade E, plus three other subjects at GCSE grade C or above (including English)
  • OR NationalCertificate/Diploma (an overall pass in a subject relevant to the course chosen)
  • OR Other relevant full level 3 qualification
  • OR Access Certificate

As well as the above, GCSE English or equivalent (for some courses GCSE Mathematics or equivalent is also a requirement – check individual courses for details).

Please note, applicants for 2015/16 entry are likely to receive offers asking for higher grades than the stated minimum requirements.

Mature Applicants

We welcome applications from those who have few formal qualifications but a wealth of work and life experience, commitment and ability. Applicants in this group may be invited to interview or asked to provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application.

However, don’t worry if you don’t meet specific entry requirements as there are other ways to progress to Higher Education – why not check out our Access to Higher Education courses to find out more!

All Applicants:

All students must demonstrate before starting the course that they have the required literacy skills to complete the course. Students are also made aware that it maybe a requirement of progression on to a top up degree that they have both English and Mathematics GCSE at Grade C. Students who do not have these qualifications have the opportunity to gain them whilst at college.

Candidates applying for a place on a top up programme will need to have passed all modules of a relevant Foundation Degree or HND.
