Greater Manchester Skills Support for the Workforce

The Leeds City College Business Development & Employer Engagement unit (GROW) has recently received notification of its successful application to partner with Calderdale College on the delivery of the ESF Skills Support for the Workforce contract in the Greater Manchester area.

This project aims to develop innovative solutions to the skills issues facing low paid, low skilled employees across Greater Manchester by:

  • Providing individuals with the opportunities to develop the skills that will enable them to progress in employment,
  • Providing support to employers to take on and develop individuals to fill intermediate, technical and higher level skills gaps and shortages
  • Supporting those at risk of redundancy and newly unemployed

The focus is on Small to Medium Enterprises (SME) with between 1-249 employees who are located within the Greater Manchester LEP area: Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford and Wigan and which are in the priority sectors of Business, financial & professional services, Advanced manufacturing (including advanced materials), Digital and creative, Construction and Logistics.

The Business Development & Employer Engagement unit will now begin a programme of engagement with employers in the region to understand their skills needs and is in the process of working up a robust implementation plan before commencing delivery in November 16.
