The course aims to help students who are returning to education to gain useful qualifications. You will cover some of the skills necessary to becoming a more efficient and effective student, including time planning, note taking, essay writing and reading skills.

What and how do you learn?

Below is a reminder of the subjects available on the programme. Your timetable will be constructed from the following core and optional subjects:

Core subjects

  • English (GCSE)
  • Maths (GCSE)
  • Tutorial
  • Core Science (GCSE)
  • NOCN Certificate in Progression (Level 2)

All optional GCSE courses are subject to availability.

There is a weekly tutorial session which is an essential aspect of your programme of study. You will have a personal tutor who will provide help, information and support.

Qualifications required to start

You will be returning to education after a period of time spent at work, childcare or other activities. You may have acquired valuable skills and experience during this time. You do not need formal qualifications, but you must be able to show by your application and interview that you are able to benefit from studying at Level 2 (GCSE).

Departmental Material Fee: £25.00 – must be paid in full by student at enrolment.

After the course

GCSE qualifications are useful for entry to more advanced courses, both academic and vocational, and for going directly to employment. A significant number of students progress to the Access to Higher Education courses or to other Access courses.
