About the course

The Award in First Line Management aims to give practising and potential first line managers a foundation for their formal development in this role. The qualification does this by developing management skills and assisting participants in gaining the knowledge required by a manager.

What you learn

Students complete a range of ILM workbooks and assignments.
ILM Workbook / Units:

  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Understanding Change in the Workplace
  • Motivating to Perform in the Workplace
  • Organising and Delegating

Qualifications needed to start

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will:

  • Be either practising or aspiring first line managers who have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme
  • Have the necessary skills (or be willing to work towards these) to enable them to meet the assessment demands

What’s next

Successful participants may benefit from career enhancement and/or may be able to progress to:

  • NVQ Level 3 in Management, depending on their workplace responsibilities
  • ILM Certificate or Diploma in First Line Management (Level 3)
  • Or other similar qualifications

All registered candidates automatically become studying members of the ILM for one year and can enjoy a range of member benefits accessible through the ILM website. Successful completion of a Level 3 qualification provides eligibility for Associate Membership (AMInstLM) of Institute of Leadership and Management.
