About the course

The Foundation Arts and Media course combines Arts, Media and Performance and is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in this area to gain an extensive range of skills. Students will study a variety of art disciplines both 2D and 3D, explore multimedia design looking at image manipulation and animation techniques and study a range of performance skills. Students will work on exciting and creative projects, giving them the opportunity to develop the personal and social skills necessary for the world of work in the creative arts sector.

What will I learn?

There are four main parts to the course which are taught through different units.

Certificate in Art and Design:

• Explore drawing
• Explore printmaking
• Explore mixed media
• Planning an enterprise activity

Award in Performing Arts:

• Preparing performing arts work
• Explore acting skills

Award in Media:

• Developing Animation
• Developing Multimedia Products

Students will also work towards a qualification in Personal and Social Development skills which includes units such as:

• Preparation for work
• Planning an enterprise activity
• Career progression

How will I be assessed?

Students will complete a series of assignments which will be continually assessed throughout the academic year.

What are the entry requirements?

Candidates will be expected to have studied at least one area of the course, ie. Art, drama or media and/or be able to demonstrate an interest in these subjects. Applications should be supported by a reference showing students to be motivated in the relevant areas of learning

Future Opportunities

Each qualification is intended to provide progression to higher level, or related qualification. If students achieve a high standard of work on this programme, they can apply for one of the Level 2 programmes which include the Diploma in Performing Arts, Diploma in Art and Design or the Combined Arts and Media.
