About the course

This combined Arts and Media course is made up of two BTEC qualifications and is the equivalent of 6 GCSEs (D-G) and is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in art, media and performance to gain an extensive range of skills in all areas.

Students have the opportunity to study a variety of art disciplines both 2D and 3D, explore multimedia design looking at image manipulation and animation techniques and study a range of performance skills. In addition, students will look at employment opportunities in the related sector.

What you learn

Performing Arts
BTEC Introductory Certificate in Performing Arts consisting of four units:

  • Personal effectiveness
  • Starting work in Performing Arts
  • Development Skills in the Performing Arts
  • Showing your work

Art, Design & Media
BTEC Introductory Diploma in Art, Design and Media consisting of 6 mandatory units:

  • Explore Visual Language
  • Explore Materials, Technologies, Techniques and Processes
  • Explore and Develop Ideas
  • Carry Out a Personal Project
  • Introduction to Multimedia
  • Introduction to 2D

Candidates will be required to study key skills at a level appropriate to them. This will be ascertained during the early stages of the course, both for key skills communication and number. In order to gain the key skills qualification the candidate will sit an exam in the summer term.

Qualifications needed to start

Candidates will be expected to have studied at least one area of the course, ie. Art, drama or media and/or be able to demonstrate an interest in these subjects. Applications should be supported by a reference showing students to be motivated in the relevant areas of learning.

What’s next

Each qualification is intended to provide progression to higher level, or related, NCFE, GNVQ or BTEC qualifications. If students achieve a high standard of work on this programme, they can apply for one of three Level 2 programmes – First Diploma in Performing Arts, GNVQ Intermediate in Art and Design or GNVQ Intermediate in Multimedia Design.
