Duration: 1 day - Part Time
Venue: Wetherby Centre view map »
Course Code: 33610

About the course

The aim of this class is to teach you how to identify edible and non edible species of fungi by the physical characteristics of the mushroom as well as the habitat and conditions it is found growing in.

What and how do you learn?

Ever fancied collecting wild mushrooms, but are unsure which are toxic and which are edible?

This introductory session will show you where to collect the more common fungi and how to identify them. The session will also provide information on storage and cooking tips.

Please note this is an introductory course and will not make you an expert in the recognition and culinary use of mushrooms. A good photographic identification book is recommended to aid identification. You will need to have access to transport and to meet at an agreed location.

Qualifications/experience required to start

None required, just an interest in the subject

About the tutor(s)

Although the tutor has a good knowledge of the common fungi species he is not an expert. He will point out the rules for collecting and using wild mushrooms for culinary purposes, but under no circumstances should anyone consume any fungi if it cannot be clearly identified.
