About the course

This is a one year fast track course giving you a broad understanding of all aspects of business. The course is equivalent to 2/3 A levels.The highest grade will give you 280 UCAS points.

What will I learn?

During the course you cover the following four mandatory units:

  • The business environment.
  • Business resources.
  • Introduction to marketing.
  • Business communication.

You will also study eight optional units covering areas as diverse as:

  • Accounting.
  • Law.
  • Team-working.
  • Business planning.

What skills will I gain on this course?

The method of teaching used on the course is similar to university so it is an ideal preparation for entry. If you want to enter employment you will gain many skills such as accounting, team working, and communication. This makes you a more attractive candidate to prospective employers.

How will I be assessed?

There are no exams on the course, you are assessed through a series of practical assignments and are given continuous feedback on your progress throughout the course.

What are the entry requirements?

You need to be 17 years of age or over and have the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade C or above ideally including Mathematics and/or English or equivalent (L2 Functional Skills).
  • Higher Diploma (which is equivalent to 7 GCSEs at Grades A* – C.
  • NVQ2 or level 2 Diploma at Merit grade with ideally Maths and/or English at minimum Grade C or equivalent (L2 Functional Skills).

For students without the above, relevant work experience will be taken into account.

About the tutor(s)

All the tutors on the course are qualified teachers. The majority have come from a variety of working backgrounds such as Finance, Banking, and Human Resource Management. They are able to bring this experience into your lessons to make them varied and more interesting.

Future Opportunities

As the course is equivalent to 2/3 A levels the majority of students progress on to a degree or foundation degree in subjects such as Business, Marketing, IT or Law. Alternatively you could enter employment in various areas of business such as accounts, marketing, local government and other public sector organisations.
