What will I learn?

As an ‘AS’ level student you will study AQA specification B, which consists of the following:

  • Unit 1: Introduction to language and literature study
  • Unit 2: Themes in language and literature (coursework)

If you progress to the second year and study as an ‘A’ Level student you will cover:

  • Unit 3: Talk in life and literature
  • Unit 4: Text transformation (coursework)

How will I be assessed?

You take written examinations at both AS and A2 levels, as well as undertaking coursework assessments. Students must pass 2 AS modules at Grade E or above to be considered for A2.

What are the entry requirements?

To study A-levels full-time with us students must satisfy our standard entry requirements, plus the specific grades required for each individual A-level. Therefore, to take this course as part of a full-time programme of study, students are required to:

and within these requirements have the following grades required specifically for the English language and literature A-level course:

  • English Language – GCSE grade C (higher)
  • English Literature – GCSE grade C an advantage if applicable

Future Opportunities

After successful completion of the ‘AS’ Level course you can progress to the A2 level of English Language and Literature. The ‘A’ Level qualification is recognised by all universities and higher education institutions as one of the methods of entry.

Most ‘A’ Level English Language and Literature students enter into higher education to study for English degrees or combined studies. This qualification is also useful for those people wishing to pursue a course in journalism.

Part-time AS / A Levels

Part-time start dates: Courses start the week commencing Monday 12th September 2011.

Part-time session times:

Session times:
AS Level – 18:00-21:00 – Thursday
A2 Level – 18:00-21:00 – Wednesday

Part-time fees: £580 + £10 registration / year

All AS evening courses require full payment by you for tuition and exam fees. The total cost for any one of our AS evening courses is £580 + £10 registration fee. There is an option to pay by instalments which requires a 25% deposit on the day of enrolment then a payment plan will be arranged with you.

Part-time English Language and Literature AS/A Level entry requirements:

  • English Language – GCSE grade C (higher)
  • English Literature – GCSE grade C an advantage if applicable

In order to be able to enrol you must meet these entry requirements. You will need to bring evidence that you can meet the entry requirements to enrolment.

IF YOU DO NOT BRING THIS EVIDENCE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO ENROL

Part-time enrolment:

Enrolment for part-time A levels will begin from 9:30am on Tuesday 6th September.

Places are limited and will be given on a first come first served basis. It is advisable to arrive early for enrolment on evening subjects to avoid disappointment.
