About the course
The Diploma in Hair and Beauty Studies is an exciting new qualification for those interested in a related career in the hair, beauty, complementary therapy or media make-up sectors.
The diploma is a theory based programme that offers students the opportunity to gain 3.5 A levels through academic study. It does not qualify candidates as practicing technicians or therapists, but does provide opportunities for students to study 6 practical units, for example, media make up award, anatomy and physiology, creative hairdressing design skills and the theory of complementary therapy.
This intense programmes main focus is to offer learners the opportunity to develop, not only their creative flare, but acquire the academic and business skills necessary to pursue a related career within the hair and beauty profession or onto a university programme of study.

- Exploring the origins of Massage and principles of complementary and alternative medicine.
- Origins, Principles and theories of massage.
- Award in Media Make up.
- Award in technological developments within the hair and Beauty industry.
- Award in anatomical and physiological knowledge of body systems.
- Award in Creative hairdressing design.
- Business location and design.
- Event management and enterprise for hair and beauty.
- Product research, design and development.
- Exploring business and management.
- Exploring media and image within hair and beauty.
- Business, planning and finance within hair and beauty.
- Project unit.
You will also undertake Functional Skills at level 2 in English, Maths and ICT.

How will I be assessed?
The course will include assessed coursework either individually or working in groups. There are also 3 external examinations. You will be assessed for each unit and build up a portfolio. You will complete a period of work experience and complete a project on a related topic.
What are the entry requirements?
The entry qualifications are a minimum of 5 GCSE’s grades A* – C, Level 2/ Level 3 Programme.
All applicants will be required to go through an interview process. References will be required from all applicants.
