Study Type: Full Time
Venue: Park Lane Campus view map »
Course Code: 32372-03

About the course

The Diploma is a one year full-time programme which is recognised by universities as an alternative to “A” levels for entry to many degree courses. This diploma route is relevant for those wishing to undertake degrees in Marketing or PR along with a whole range of IT based subjects..

What will I learn?

The Diploma is divided into units grouped into subject areas for each of which you can gain credits. All units are class based and learning is facilitated by formal lectures, practical group work and ICT interaction. Subjects offered on this Diploma include;

  • Business organisation.
  • Marketing.
  • Maths.
  • Information technology.

More details on combinations and unit content can be discussed at the interview stage.

Skills you will develop

You will develop the academic skills, knowledge and understanding to enable you to progress to University and pursue a professional career of your choice.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment includes coursework and exams in two semesters over the year. Some units may include presentations.
All work is internally moderated and externally moderated by OCN assessors.

What are the entry requirements?

You must be 19 years of age by 1st September in the year the course starts.

Formal qualifications are not always required but you must be able to show by your application and interview that you are able to benefit from studying at Level 3 (“A” level standard). It is desirable that you have attained GCSE ‘C’ or above in English and maths prior to entry on the Access Diploma as these subjects are often required for degree level courses. Some degree, primary teaching degrees also require a GCSE ‘C’ or above in a science subject. If necessary, you may be able to study one or two GCSEs alongside your Diploma.

You need to have a good standard of written English and all applicants will be required to take a written assessment.

About the tutors

All our tutors are experienced in their subjects. They are qualified academically and professionally and bring to the sessions a combination of both knowledge routes.

Future Opportunities

The diploma is designed for access to many HE courses both locally and nationally. Fortunately we have some of the best Universities here in Yorkshire. Local universities welcome our Access students. Leeds Trinity University College for example has a strong tradition of offering our students places for Primary Education and Psychology along with History and Media. We also have close links with Leeds Met and Leeds University who support the aims and objectives of the Access Diploma and increased participation for adult students. Students do not have to restrict themselves to local universities. They are encouraged to pick the courses best suited to their situations, needs and interests.
