About the course

    This is an introductory course designed to support students aiming to progress on to level 2 courses. The course combines IT with business practices, develops appropriate English and Maths skills and also aims to aid the student’s personal and social development. Students will gain knowledge and experience in the use of Word, Excel and Power Point software packages, and may also get the opportunity to explore Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Publisher and the use of mobile devices, depending upon the options chosen.

What skills will I develop?

    You will gain knowledge and experience in the use of Word, Excel and Power Point software packages, and will also get the opportunity to explore healthy living, interview techniques and skills needed to obtain employment.

How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed continually by assignments and practical activities, including presentations, and project work. These are externally moderated by the examination body.

What are the entry requirements?

    Students should have:

  • A genuine interest in IT
  • A commitment to complete homework and project work on time
  • The ability to communicate and demonstrate socially acceptable behaviour in College
  • Literacy and ICT skills at Entry 2.

Future Opportunities

    Successful completion of this course will lead to the award of a certificate in IT. The qualification is also excellent preparation for a progression to many branches of computing including networking, software development and computer games.
