About the course

This programme has been developed and designed to build upon Foundation Degree and other HE equivalent programmes. It will give students in the workplace the opportunity to continue their studies and further development of the accepted practice.

The programme builds on students’ existing knowledge and skills in business. It develops appropriate personal, intellectual and subject specific skills to enable students to consider and evaluate a range of business issues from a strategic and international perspective.

This course is validated by Leeds Metropolitan University and delivered at the Leeds City College Park Lane Campus. Successful students will achieve a BA (Hons) Business.

This Award will enable the continuity of learning for students which, in a recession, is important because of the constant state of change.

The flexibility of the content allows for the specific requirements of the learners to be addressed. The course duration is 18 months and runs across three separate semesters. Attendance will be 4 hours per week. Tutorials may be organised during the day or evening to meet your own particular needs.

What and how do you learn?

To be awarded the BA (Hons) Business students need to successfully pass all of the following the 7 modules:

  • Personal and Professional Development – 15 credits
  • Research Methods – 15 credits
  • Understanding Strategic Management in Organisations – 15 credits
  • Skills for Strategic Management – 15 credits
  • Operating in a Global Context – 15 credits
  • Business Knowledge – 15 credits
  • Work Based Project / Dissertation – 30 credits

For each module the student workload is likely to be made up of: Lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials, plus independent private study in your own time.

How will I be assessed?

Continuous assessment ensures that student progress is supported and facilitated through tutorials and personal tutor support. Each module is assessed by one assignment which is broken down into a number of tasks. A variety of assessment methods are used including coursework, presentations, class based case studies and work related projects. A detailed assessment grid can be found in the programme handbook.

What are the entry requirements?

Applications are welcomed from students with an HND or Foundation Degree in Business or Business Management (or overseas equivalent).

If English is not your first language you must provide evidence that you will be able to study at degree level English. You will be required to show that your use of English is equivalent to IELTS 6.5.

If you are in doubt about your qualifications and experience to start the programme, please ask the programme manager for advice.

After the course

On successful completion of this Honours Degree, there are opportunities for graduates to continue their studies at Masters Level.

Most people work for the award because it helps them to be better managers and for many it leads to promotion as a manager at a senior level.
