About the course

The Certificate in Team Leading is a broader qualification than the ILM Award In Team Leading. It requires the student to complete 5 or 7 optional workbooks and assignments. It is a nationally recognised qualification. It is specifically designed for practising and aspiring Team Leaders/Supervisors, providing a solid foundation in their formal development and training. This qualification would be advantageous for anyone who is looking to establish themselves in a supervisory or management career, or who would like to be accredited for current skills and experience.

What and how do you learn?

Students complete 8-10 workbooks and assignments linked to ILM study units, the three mandatory units being:

  • Developing yourself as a team leader.
  • Motivating the work team to perform.
  • Planning and monitoring work.

In addition to this students choose five to seven optional units from the following:

  • Developing the work team.
  • Dealing with change in the workplace.
  • Briefing the work team.
  • Leading your work team.
  • Providing quality to customers.
  • Business improvement techniques.
  • Using information to solve problems.
  • Using resources efficiently in the workplace.
  • Providing quality to customers.
  • Maintaining a healthy and safe work environment.

Distance learning provides the flexibility to complete the assessments at a time that is suitable to the student and to fit in with other commitments. The variety and choice of workbooks means that you can focus on areas of most benefit to you and your work role. As a student with ILM you are entitled to free membership of the Institute of Leadership and Management.

Assessment

There is a short written assignment to be completed with each workbook.

About the tutor

The tutor has worked with a wide range of organisations and business as a consultant, trainer and assessor. She has delivered and assessed management courses from level 2 through to degree level.

Qualifications required to start

There are no formal entry requirements but participants will:

  • Be either practising or aspiring team leaders who have a background that will enable them to benefit from the programme.
  • Whilst there is no formal educational requirement participants will have the necessary skills (or be willing to work towards these) to be able to meet the assessment demands.
