About the course
This programme is designed for students who initially may need extra support with studying. Students will develop practical skills in hair and beauty treatments. Assessments will be ongoing throughout the course and will involve practical tasks and written assignments . Students are required to wear a college uniform and a small hairdressing kit will be needed. There will be opportunities to participate in fundraising activities, student trips and competitions.
What will I learn?
Students will cover a selection of topics as listed below:
- Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
- Shampoo and conditioning
- Hair plaiting
- Creating an image using colour
- Skin care and make-up
- Hand care and nail art
- Preparation for work
- Healthy living
- English, maths and ICT

What are the entry requirements?
Students should have:
- A genuine interest in hairdressing and beauty therapy as a possible career.
- A commitment to complete homework and project work on time.
- The ability to communicate and demonstrate socially acceptable behaviour in college.
- Literacy skills at entry level 2 or above.
- The ability to travel to college independently.
