About the course
This introductory course is designed to prepare you for work as a Teaching Assistant / Special Needs Assistant.
What and how do you learn?
This teaching assistant programme is an interactive and fun course, consisting of a mix of tutorial sessions, practical activities and individual support.
You will learn:
- Skills and qualities required to be a Teaching Assistant.
- What children learn in school today.
- What makes an effective learner.
- Including all children.
- Reviewing your own skills.
Qualifications/experience required to start
No formal qualifications needed although you will be required to apply for a CRB certificate of suitability during the course. Your literacy and numeracy skills will be checked during the programme. Entry Level 3 will be required to progress to further training.

It is possible to enrol by phone for non-concessionary courses only by phoning 0113 2162201 from the 9th – 27th August between the hours of 09.30 and 16.00.
Enrolment opens:
23rd August onwards – Monday to Thursday: 10.00-14.00
7th & 9th September – Evening Enrolment: 18.30-20.30
Places are limited so please attend early to avoid disappointment. For courses that start later in the year please contact the centre for details of when and how to enrol.
