About the course
The course offers a programme of activities designed to give you an insight into the rugby league coaching industry. A practical hands on approach is taken and there will be regular coaching sessions to develop your skills.
Throughout the course you will learn on an apprentice basis how to become a rugby coach by working alongside a coach within the game.
We already have a partnership with Leeds Rhinos, which allows students to develop their coaching skills with both children and adults by working alongside fully qualified coaches from the professional game.
What and how do you learn?
This Level 2 coaching award is broken down into 5 units:
- Planning and preparing coaching sessions
- Maintaining an environment in which participants can improve their performance
- Coach participants to improve performance
- Evaluate coaching sessions
- Deal with accidents and emergencies
The coaching and active delivery of this course is ideal for students who would like to become a coach or trainer. However it is stressed that the course must be supplemented with the Advanced Coaching Awards.
You may have the opportunity to study the following additional qualifications:
- RLSS National Pool
- HSE First Aid at Work
- NCFE Level 2 Nutrition and Exercise (Rugby)
- NCFE Safe Moving and Handling
You will be expected to attend college 3 days a week and to achieve the NVQ you must attend work placement to gain the necessary experience. Work experience is provided for you and you are expected to attend for up to 10 hours per week. This work may include evenings or weekends.
Assessment
Assessment is an on-going process, you are assessed taking sessions on more than one occasion. Evidence is produced and kept in a portfolio which is produced at the end of the course.
