How our Careers Service can help you

The College Careers Service is here to help you make informed decisions and help you plan the next steps towards your future. From applying to university, finding work or further study to working out your interests, skills and aspirations, we can provide you with the expert information, advice and guidance you need with help from our professionally qualified Student Advisers. It doesn't matter whether you have no ideas and don't know where to start or are clear on what you want to do and just need some help with your CV – we are here to help.

With the help of our professionally qualified Student Advisers, we can give you the right advice to help you succeed in taking steps towards your intended future. The services we offer to do this are:

  • Drop-in Service (10 – 15 minutes) – Discuss with an Adviser what you need help with, this could be checking your UCAS personal statement to discussing what to do next after your course.
  • Guidance Appointments (up to 45 minutes) – Following an initial discussion at drop-in, an appointment may be needed to give you further advice and guidance that is tailored to your individual needs.
  • eGuidance – For students (past, present and intending) who are unable to make it to the Student Advice Hub, this service gives you access to help and support from one of our Advisers.
  • Mock Interviews – If you have an interview coming up and you’re not sure how to prepare, we can give you a trial run and provide you with feedback to help you succeed on the day. This can be either a job or university interview.
  • Events – We host a variety of workshops, fairs, presentations and other events to enable you to meet with local and national employers and learn key skills to enhance employability.
  • Information Resources – We have a range of interactive resources on the College Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Moodle and on the Student Intranet. These include Job Profiles, CV writing tools, videos and links to external resources. At each Campus you will also find a range of paper resources and ‘How to…’ books.

The College Careers Service is Matrix-Accredited and available to all past, present and intending students. The Careers service is located at our main campuses in the Student Advice Hub and we also have Student Advisers based across our community sites.
